Since the entire fiber is transformed into many virtual sensors (sensor every 1-10 meters of fiber) that are very sensitive to minute vibrations and provide real-time data, there can be many potential applications. In addition, the classification and pattern recognition capabilities of the FiberRanger systems provide accurate identification of activities with a low nuisance alarm rate. Examples of other applications are:

• Railway monitoring – monitor train speed and real-time location.
• highway traffic monitoring – monitor speed of moving traffic, stopped traffic
• Bomb explosion detection – detect, locate, and classify an explosion
